In an experiment to see if this would ever be a viable life-style option for me I chose to work a 7A to 7P shift today. Sunday of course having free parking, and a relatively low invasion of new patients, ( no pre-scheduled surgeries, or admits for scheduled care, etc) , is probably the poorest reflection of what a "day-shift" normally looks like ! However, work load and patient mix aside, the 0500 looms the same no matter what the day has to bring. That is PRIME sleep time for me...and I was none to happy to rouse my well rested body from the slumber and warmth of the bed. However, the low volume of traffic and quick commute time meant I could have slept in for almost another half hour, and push come to shove, I could have skipped the make-up and hair routine ( of course, I am certain no one wants to see me by the light of day with no makeup and straight unfluffed hair) .....and made it almost a 545 rise time....better but still not great.
as for the work.... still too many people around, visitors, etc....make doing my job in timely fashion difficult and I am sure some days nearly impossible. besides...I am just a night owl by nature and this 1400 hour is really the time I should be lounging in the sunshine ...yes I chose to work on the first sunny day of June!!
otherwise...life is leaving me in a state of constant worry.... "his" pain is not really subsiding, ...that is the surgical pain...the sever pain in his calf and thigh are gone....though he did venture out in the car yesterday...and then to the store today.... for Diet coke for me none the less. Tuesday at 1100 ...under the skillful knife of Dr Nicholoff, a sweet young surgeon from Minnesota....complete blood flow to his Right leg will be restored!! three days in patient and then home.... 6 weeks to full recovery.... by August 1, we should be back on the golf course!!
need to connect with some folks this week, when life over runs me I hang out here in cyber space..
gotta run some premie needs a gas.....
for a giggle.... check out You tube and search MTV Cribs-NICU !!! that is the life of my littlest patients!!
